Senate committee to vote on ENDA on July 10th

Building off momentum from major decisions at the Supreme Court in favor of marriage equality, a Senate committee is set to hold a vote July 10 on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the Washington Blade has learned.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee has scheduled the markup for the LGBT job anti-bias legislation two weeks to the day that the Supreme Court ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8.

Washington DC sees epidemic of attacks on LGBT people

The District of Columbia has some of the best legal protection for transpeople against discrimination.  That results in lots of transpeople moving there in order to transition…and in transpeople being more open about who they are.

Unfortunately that also elevates the level of visibility of transpeople to those who wish to prey upon us…and hence the District has one of the highest rates of crimes with transgender victims.

Mike Huckabee: Marriage equality is similar to polygamy, suicide

Speaking on his Fox News show over the weekend, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) attacked the Supreme Court for its recent landmark rulings on gay rights, labeling the justices "extremists" and claiming they thought themselves to be wiser than "God almighty himself."

After insisting he was neither a "homophobe nor a hater" because of his anti-gay marriage stance, Huckabee compared homosexuality to polygamy and prostitution.
