Gay married couples are still barred from receiving veterans spousal benefits at this time despite the court ruling against the Defense of Marriage Act, according to a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs that was obtained Tuesday by the Washington Blade.
The estimated number of LGBT refugees and asylum seekers entering the United States each year is 4,000 and rising, said Max Niedzwiecki, leader of the LGBT Faith and Asylum Network, a national network dedicated to helping asylum seekers based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
