California’s chief law enforcement officer urged the state high court Monday to refuse once again to stop same-sex marriages while the justices consider a legal bid to reviveProposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure that banned gay nuptials.
This past weekend, GLAAD learned that local Philadelphia media sensationalized and inaccurately reported on the murder of a trans woman of color, using the wrong name and pronouns and including irrelevant information about her past.
Nefertiti Jaquez who now works for the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia reported on an unfolding case in which Charles Sargent has been arrested for killing and dismembering transgender woman. The story about it misgendered the victim, without any attempt at balance in terms of finding anyone in the trans community who knew the victim.
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks told gay rights groups Monday that she would not fly the gay pride flag outside the county building because the county doesn’t hang “issue-based flags.” This characterization infuriated the gay community.
