This Tuesday, the nominees for Film Independent’s Spirit Awards were announced, recognizing accomplishments by indie filmmakers’ during the past year. Several LGBT inclusive films received nods, including Ira Sachs’ Keep the Lights On which was nominated in four categories.

In her film, Memories of a Penitent Heart, she explores the relationship between her gay uncle, her devoutly Roman Catholic grandmother, Puerto Rican culture, and a world that was waking up to the reality of AIDS.
Nominations for the 2013 People’s Choice Awards were announced yesterday and voting is now open to decide the winners. Glee scored big in TV with a leading five nominations between the series and cast and Modern Family followed closely behind with four nods. Of the five actors nominated for Favorite Comedic TV Actor, four are openly gay. A wide range of LGBT-inclusive programs also picked up nominations.
