GLAAD released its first annual Studio Responsibility Index (SRI), a report that maps the quantity, quality and diversity of images of LGBT people in films released by six major motion picture studios during the 2012 calendar year. Those studios are 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Columbia, Universal Pictures, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Brothers.

In 1962 boxer Emile Griffith was in the ring against Benny Paret, when he seemed to explode with anger and pummeled his opponent with such force that, after getting knocked out, Paret died of his injuries. It was eventually revealed that before that some time before the fight Paret had called Griffith a "maricón."
