GLAAD is proud to sponsor a launch event for the first annual Latino/a Queer Film Festival (LQFF) on Sunday, June 21 in Los Angeles, CA. The event will feature films by and about LGBTQ Latinos that reflect the community's struggles, lives, and achievements.
These are heady days for the gay and lesbian community, with Supreme Court decisions and public-opinion polls reflecting startling shifts in views on issues such as gay marriage. Not surprisingly, the upcoming edition of the Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival projects these changing attitudes.
Earlier this week Geeks OUT, an LGBT organization that rallies, empowers and promotes the queer geek community, started a campaign asking audiences to skip the Ender's Game, an upcoming film based on anti-gay author and National Organization for Marriage board member Orson Scott Card's popular sci-fi novel of the same name.
PJ Torokvei, a Canadian-born comedy writer and producer who at age 50 began to transition as a woman, died as a result of complications from liver failure on July 3 at the age of 62. Torokvei co-wrote the films Real Genius (1985), Back to School (1986), Caddyshack II (1988) and Guarding Tess (1994). The following tribute to Torokvei, provided exclusively to THR, was penned by Stan Brooks, a writer, director and Emmy-winning producer who was one of Torokvei's closest friends and collaborators.
HBO Documentary Films is currently in production on a film telling the story of the historic Supreme Court case that overturned Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. The untitled feature will be completed by the end of this year for debut on the network in 2014.
