It was announced on Friday that New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg gave $250,000 to help pro-marriage equality efforts in Maryland’s upcoming referendum. The mayor’s gift was the largest individual donation received so far by advocates in the state, who are facing fierce opposition to Question 6 in November.

Students at Morehouse College in Atlanta have created the Bayard Rustin Scholars Program, named after the late LGBT and civil rights pioneer. The program will allow eleven incoming freshmen to take a curriculum based on Rustin’s work in social justice and community organizing. Rustin, a major figure in the civil rights movement, helped organize the 1963 March on Washington but was publically shunned after coming out as gay.
