Nintendo releases new statement, promises to make future Tomodachi Life games "more inclusive and better represent all players"

Nintendo, publisher of upcoming game Tomodachi Life, released a new statement today promising to make any future games in the series inclusive of same-sex relationships. "We will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players," they said.

Cecilia Aldarondo, the filmmaker behind Memories of a Penitent Heart, will be giving work-in-progress talks about the film at several congregations around New York City. The film tackles themes of family acceptance, HIV/AIDS, Latino family culture, and Roman Catholic teaching on being gay.

Nintendo releases statement saying same-sex relationship options will not be included in 'Tomodachi Life'

Following outcry from fans that upcoming game Tomodachi Life would allow opposite-sex characters to date and marry one another, but not same-sex characters, publisher Nintendo released a statement saying they were “not trying to provide social commentary.” Unfortunately by continuing to limit the options available to players, Nintendo is doing just that.

I've heard this countless times from my friends and peers talking about their own writing or defending their favorite shows, but many shows, both past and present, have reminded viewers that LGBT people exist in all walks of life and that it's actually less realistic to erase our presence from the diverse communities that make up our world.
