Actor and Advocate Omar Sharif Jr. Joins GLAAD Staff

GLAAD today announced that actor and LGBT advocate Omar Sharif Jr. will join GLAAD's staff as National Spokesperson and Strategic Giving Officer. Complementing the work of National Spokesperson Wilson Cruz, Sharif Jr. will be an essential part of GLAAD's Development team, helping to build relationships with donors and raise vital funds to support GLAAD's work to lead the conversation for LGBT equality.

The case came to light last week after top Catholic officials, led by New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said that the church needs to do a better job welcoming gays and showing that the institution is not “anti-anybody.” GLAAD responded by promoting Coppola’s story to show that the church’s actions were not matching its words.
