With the passage of a brand new law on August 1, Austria became the 13 European nation to legally recognize the adoption of a child by unmarried same-sex parents. An amendment to the Austrian Civil Code was passed on July 4, following a recommendation from the European Court of Human Rights.

Milonov appears to have triggered an investigation into visits to the country by Lady Gaga and Madonna, both of whom made spectacles of Russia's anti-gay laws during their performances.
Hundreds of people marched Saturday towards the Russian consulate on Bloor St. waving rainbow flags and carrying signs to protest Russia’s anti-gay laws, which the LGBTQ community is calling an attack on human rights.
