After a transgender teenager was ordered to a suspension by her Nova Scotia high school for using the women's restroom, the school board has dropped the punishment and is changing its policy to meet the needs of all students.

Yesterday, the news broke that Roger Gorley was arrested while trying to remain at the bedside of his partner, Allen, in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Their story calls much-needed attention to the unequal treatment of gay and lesbian couples, even when they have put legal safeguards in place.

A Missouri man was arrested because he stayed by his partner's bedside in the hospital. The hospital refused to recognize Roger as a part of Allen's family, put him handcuffs, and escorted him out of the building. Roger is now unable to see his partner at all, because of a restraining order following his arrest.

Nicholas Coppola, the gay man who was stripped of his involvement with his local Roman Catholic parish, delivered 18,603 signatures to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, requesting to be restored to full engagement with his local parish. The signatures were gathered through the social justice organization, Faithful America in less than one week after launching the campaign.
