A fundraising campaign for the upcoming documentary film, MAJOR!, which tells the story of transgender elder and pioneering civil rights activist Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, is coming into its final days on the creative funding site, Kickstarter.
Today SAG-AFTRA released the results of a survey finding that out lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender actors continue to face anti-LGBT bias when looking for work. The survey was conducted by UCLA's Williams Institute and SAG-AFTRA with responses from 5,700 union actors, with about 15% of respondents identifying as LGBT.
The New Black follows six African-American faith leaders to explore how Black, faith, and LGBT communities intersected in Maryland's campaign for marriage equality, where the role of the Black church as the community's institutional pillar took on a whole new dynamic. The film is partnering with Tugg to bring The New Black to local theaters and churches for screenings, starting on National Coming Out Day October 11.
