The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today the nominees for the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Among the nominees are many LGBT-inclusive shows featuring many prominent out characters and personalities in daytime television.

Peruvian writer and Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa recently drew international headlines when he criticized his country's Catholic Church for its stance on civil unions. Vargas Llosa described the church as "crassly ignorant" for saying that homosexuality was against the natural order and said passing civil unions would make Peru a more "decent" country. A libertarian and internationally read author, Vargas Llosa has spoken before in support of marriage equality.
TV icon and LGBT advocate George Takei will be honored at the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York at the Waldorf Astoria on May 3 where he will receive the Vito Russo Award. Global superstar Kylie Minogue will perform at the show.
