The 2013 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival wrapped up yesterday and awards were handed out to some of the best new LGBT films. Among the recipients was Bridegroom, the story of discrimination faced by Shane Bitney Crone in the wake of his partner's death. The film received the Audience Award for Outstanding Documentary Feature Film.
With regard to the recent brutal killing of Cameroonian gay rights activist Eric Ohena Lembembe, Shaun Kadlec and Deb Tullmann are the filmmakers behind Born This Way, a documentary about the underground LGBT community in Cameroon which is now on the festival circuit.
GLAAD is proud to sponsor a launch event for the first annual Latino/a Queer Film Festival (LQFF) on Sunday, June 21 in Los Angeles, CA. The event will feature films by and about LGBTQ Latinos that reflect the community's struggles, lives, and achievements.
These are heady days for the gay and lesbian community, with Supreme Court decisions and public-opinion polls reflecting startling shifts in views on issues such as gay marriage. Not surprisingly, the upcoming edition of the Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival projects these changing attitudes.
