NH House Rejects Bill Aimed at Repealing Marriage Equality

On Wednesday New Hampshire lawmakers rejected a bill that would have made their state the first to repeal a marriage equality law through legislation -- a move opposed by Democratic Gov. John Lynch.

The Republican-controlled House voted 211-116 on Monday to kill the bill that would have repealed the 2-year-old law and restored a law that allowed civil unions in 2008 and 2009.

Mormon hierarchy calls for freedom to ignore laws that protect LGBT people from discrimination

Leaders from the Church of Latter Day Saints, or the Mormons, held a press conference today, stating that the church would, in undetermined cases, support non-discrimination laws that protect LGBT people. However, in return, the church stated that it would not change its beliefs about LGBT people, and would continue to support broad religious exemptions that undermine those laws.

Marriage equality comes to Alabama

On Friday evening, the United States District Court for the 11th Circuit in Alabama struck down the ban on marriage equality in Alabama. U.S. District Judge Ginny Granade found that the Alabama Constitution and the Alabama Code containing these prohibitions are unconstitutional because they violated the due process clause and the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.
