Why are you making an "I DO" spot? As a straight, married woman, it's appalling to me that the GLBT community doesn't have the right and privilege to marry. This is a human thing and shouldn't be limited to whoever the government feels should "deserve" it.

Kristi, a filmmaker from Phoenix, Arizona, explains how another project inspired her to make an "I Do" Commercial.

...I have spent the past week filming the Arizona Marriage Equality Coalition. The first day, 12 couples went to each justice courts throughout Phoenix to apply, and be turned down, for licenses. The next day four clergy members each performed roughly 10 wedding ceremonies for many exuberant couples. A few days later those Clergy marched to city hall and were rejected when they asked the state to record the new marriages...

I got involved with this project with the intention of shooting it and handing it to another editor - frankly, someone gay, someone who would presumably be passionate about the issue. After spending a few hours with these couples and truly understanding the issues, the sheer discrimination of it all, and the power of their gracious civil disobedience, I asked the coalition if I could retain the project and cut it from a perspective that I think will make other straight people understand how crucial and relevant this issue is to their own lives and the times in which we live...
