More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
The White House Goes Purple on Facebook!
Thursday, October 20, 2011 - 3:50pm by Aaron McQuade, Director of News and Field Media at GLAAD
The White House this afternoon turned its Facebook profile picture purple to show its support for LGBT youth on Spirit Day. The White House also published a blog post on Spirit Day on its official blog.
Several people thanked the White House for the show of support in the comments section of its profile pictures page.
The change became official just minutes after President Obama handed beloved LGBT advocate Janice Langbehn the nation's second-highest civilian honor, the Presidential Citizens Medal.
