More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Actress Evan Rachel Wood Comes Out as Bisexual
After joking that she would marry her Mildred Pierce costar Kate Winslet, Wood explained how happy she currently is, saying she's open to dating any gender and calls herself "romantic" when dating women.
Though this may be the first time Wood has admitted to dating women in her personal life, she's certainly no stranger to it onscreen. As AfterEllen points out, she famously portrayed lesbian teenager Jessie on the TV series Once & Again, played the lesbian daughter of Mickey Rourke's character in the film The Wrestler, and currently has a recurring role on HBO's True Blood as lesbian vampire queen Sophie-Ann.
With this interview, Wood joins a growing number of young actors and actresses who choose to come out publicly in the prime of their professional lives rather than live in the closet. GLAAD applauds Wood for her matter-of-fact honesty and wishes her the best.
Look for Queen Sophie Ann and True Blood to return with an all-new season June 26th at 9pm.
