Mary Anne Hackett

-- President, Catholic Citizens of Illinois

-- One of the leaders of the so-called Coalition to Protect Children & Marriage

Facts

-- Says homosexuality is "a lifestyle that is damaging to body and soul" (at 2:10)

-- Not only against legal recognition, but says that "homosexual acts" themselves cannot be approved: "There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God's plan for marriage and family. Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law. Homosexual acts close the sexual act to the gift of life. Under no circumstances can they be approved."

-- Once wrote to the Vatican requesting that Depaul University's Queer Studies program to be shuttered: "In public statements regarding this program, DePaul faculty and staff have been unapologetic in seeking to train the next generation of homosexual activists who will use their Catholic university experience to attack the traditional family and the Catholic faith. We believe this scandal must be stopped immediately."

-- Labeled the Human Rights Campaign's Harry Knox "an anti-Catholic bigot" who "has chosen to live a lifestyle described by the Church as 'disordered' and by the Bible as an 'abomination.'"   Compared Knox' activism on behalf of LGBT people of faith to racists and anti-Semites: "Would President Obama be comfortable with a racist, an anti-Semite, or a member of the KKK on the council or is anti-Catholicism the only bigotry that is acceptable? What kind of advice can a bigot give to a faith-based council?"

-- Says gays are not really seeking marriage rights but instead "desire an end to marriage" (at 2:50)

-- Says of a gay student body president at a Catholic University: "Homosexuality is against the teachings of the Church. St. Vincent DePaul would be rolling over in his grave"

-- Said of San Francsico Archbishop's decision to offer Communition to gay activists: "Catholics believe that Holy Communion is the Body and Blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ. If you are aware of the outrage among Christians around the country, you can imagine the horror and shame among Catholics to see their most Holy Sacrament mocked and repudiated in this blasphemous reception by homosexual activists with the full participation of the Archbishop of San Francisco."
