The White House will file an amicus brief, urging the Supreme Court to overturn California's Proposition 8, and return marriage equality to the state.
Many wondered whether the White House would file a brief in the Proposition 8 case, which is being heard at the same time that a challenge to the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act" (DOMA) will come before the Supreme Court. The brief by the White House demonstrates continued support for overturning the law.

The White House joins an impressive roster of people and organizations supporting marriage equality. Nearly 300 businesses and municipalities have filed a join amicus brief against DOMA. Additionally, 80 members of the Republican Party, have filed a brief that calls for marriage equality.
The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the challenge to both Proposition 8 and DOMA March 26-27. GLAAD is working with United for Marriage, a coalition of justice-minded organizations to demonstrate broad support for marriage equality. We will be on the ground March 26 and 27, working with a coalition of LGBT and justice-minded organizations to rally for marriage equality.
