"We Are The Change" Transgender Day of Remembrance Event in West Hollywood/Los Angeles

On Sunday, November 20, the West Hollywood Transgender Advisory Board will be hosting an event to commemorate the 13th Transgender Day of Remembrance from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the West Hollywood/Los Angeles area. The event will begin with a march from Plummer Park to the Matthew Shepard Triangle, followed by a Day of Remembrance program and a traditional reading of the names of those lives lost as a result of anti-transgender violence. The theme of the event is “We Are The Change” and will feature a number of guest speakers and performers, including transgender advocates Bamby Salcedo and Kylar Broadus. Also in attendance will be author, producer, and transgender advocate Chaz Bono.

The West Hollywood Transgender Advisory Board is composed of nine members appointed by the WeHo City Council who work to advocate for the welfare of the transgender community in areas of education, community awareness, and empowerment. Along with the board, community partners and sponsors of the West Hollywood/Los Angeles Transgender Day of Remembrance event include Asian Pacific Aids Intervention Team, Bienestar, Christopher Street West, Gender Justice L.A., Human Rights Campaign, L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, Legacy, Alpha Omega Nu, and GLAAD. For those not living in the West Hollywood/Los Angeles area, an international list of events being held to commemorate the 13th Transgender Day of Remembrance can be found here.

GLAAD encourages all members of the LGBT community and its allies to attend an event in honor of the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
