Many of the largest television stations in the country have gone purple this Spirit Day in order to take a stand against bullying and support LGBT youth. By making their profile pictures and backgrounds on social media purple, these companies are letting their millions of followers and viewers know that homophobia and bullying have no place in 2013. Their message will doubtlessly be hear by LGBT youth who have experienced bullying, letting them know that they are not alone and that some of the some of the most important cultural institutions in the country support them. They are fulfilling their social responsibilities to make the world a more equitable and tolerant place and are a model for others to follow.
Some of the networks that have gone purple on social media or sent out supportive messages today are HBO, Lifetime, Logo, MTV, OWN, TLC and VH1! Check out screenshots from Logo, MTV, OWN, TVLand and VH1. They all went purple on air!
These companies' logos are instantly recognizable and seeing them turn purple will make a difference in the lives of many bullied youth. Please take the time to thank these networks on Twitter and Facebook for their support and encourage others to follow their example.
