More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.

Actor Wilson Cruz and GLAAD's Corey Johnson were on MSNBC this afternoon to discuss the importance of showing support for LGBT young people. Cruz and Johnson were invited to MSNBC to discuss Spirit Day, the campaign to get allies of the LGBT community to display the color purple in order to let LGBT youth know they are cared for and loved by people at their schools, in their communities, and in the media. After the discussion, MSNBC Anchor Thomas Roberts ended the segment with a heartfelt plea for that support to continue year-round and to extend beyond just wearing a certain color.
