More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.

Miss Universe reverses decision to oust transgender contestant, works with GLAAD to create more inclusive rules
The Miss Universe Organization announced that it will allow transgender contestant Jenna Talackova to compete, reversing Miss Universe Canada’s earlier decision to disqualify Talackova because she is transgender. The change came after Miss Universe began work with GLAAD to create more inclusive rules.

GLAAD Hosts Panel and Training at the National Queer People of Color Conference
GLAAD hosted two workshops at the 2012 National Queer People of Color Conference (NQPOCC) in Los Angeles recently. The first, "The Power of Story Telling: Speaking Our Truths to Create Social Change" offered real-world examples of the key role that storytelling plays in changing hearts and minds and the tremendous impact it has on changing culture. The second workshop was a media training session where participants learned the fundamentals of story telling and also how to utilize their voices as a platform for moving people to support LGBT equality.

GLAAD & HRC highlight support for equality among communities of color in wake of NOM documents
After documents revealed that the National Organization for Marriage had used race-baiting tactics to stir opposition to marriage equality, GLAAD and HRC released statistics showing broad support for LGBT people among the African American as well as the Latino and Hispanic communities. GLAAD also added NOM to its Commentators Accountability Project, reminding journalists of the long history of hateful and divisive tactics employed by the group.

TV personality Carson Daly reaffirms support for equality after homophobic gaffe
Following homophobic comments he made on his radio show, GLAAD worked with TV personality Carson Daly to speak out against tired anti-gay stereotypes. "We live in a time where gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals find courage every day to overcome adversity, stand up to bullying and find equality,” Daly said in part.
