More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Snapshots of Our Work
Wonder what we’re up to at GLAAD?
Be sure to check out GLAAD Blog each week for updates about our latest work to build support for LGBT equality through news, entertainment and online media.
- GLAAD’s Religion, Faith & Values team assisted in the launch of the Unitarian Universalist – United Nations Office campaign kickoff for “Love Beyond Borders,” which calls attention to the struggle for LGBT justice across the globe. The UU-UNO is the only denomination with a pro-LGBT mandate that has a relationship to the UN.
- GLAAD’s Spanish-Language Media team helped craft and place an essay by Deputy Vice President of Resource Development at National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Ruben Gonzales in both the Huffington Post Latino Voices (in English) and AOL Latino (in Spanish). The essay, which was published on Valentine’s Day, spoke on the joys of married life, family and acceptance.
- GLAAD announced a groundbreaking video campaign to be produced and directed by filmmaker Brett Ratner. The upcoming video series will feature a diverse group of Hollywood celebrities, athletes, musicians and politicians ‘coming out of the closet’ as supporters of equality.
- Television news commentator Roland Martin spoke out in support of equality on his TV One program, “Washington Watch,” after meeting with GLAAD to discuss a series of homophobic tweets he had posted during the Super Bowl.
