Wonder what we’re up to at GLAAD?
Be sure to check out GLAAD Blog each week for updates about our latest work to build support for LGBT equality through news, entertainment and online media.
- As states like Washington, Maryland and Maine take up marriage equality legislation, GLAAD’s Religion, Faith & Values team issued an ‘Eye on the Media’ highlighting support among religious leaders and denominations. The ‘Eye on the Media’ used research from the Public Religion Research Institute, which shows that a majority of most major groups now support marriage equality, and serves to debunk the myth that people of faith are not accepting of their LGBT brothers and sisters.
- GLAAD worked with internet giant Yahoo! to remove violent anti-gay comments from the site’s Y! Music Blog, sending a message to millions of users that anti-LGBT violence will not be tolerated. GLAAD and Yahoo! have agreed to work together to create a safer online experience for all users.
- Over 36,000 people joined GLAAD to #StandUpForEllen and show their support for J.C. Penney after anti-gay activists called on the retailer to fire talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres as its new spokesperson. J.C. Penney later confirmed that the company "stands behind its partnership with Ellen DeGeneres." As a result, dozens of media outlets helped share GLAAD’s message about the need for LGBT-inclusive employment protections.
- After CNN correspondent Roland Martin encouraged over 95,000 Twitter followers to “smack the ish” out of any male fan “hyped about David Beckham’s H&M [Super Bowl] underwear ad,” GLAAD took action and called for Martin to be fired from the network. Thousands of people have joined GLAAD’s action, taking a stand against anti-LGBT violence.
