Snapshots of Our Work

Wonder what we’re up to at GLAAD?

Be sure to check out GLAAD Blog each week for updates about our latest work to build support for LGBT through news, entertainment and online media.

  • GLAAD’s Media Field Strategy team recently contacted the Atlanta Journal Constitution regarding its use of problematic language in a story written about a 7-year-old transgender boy who was refused access to the boy’s restroom at his school. The paper immediately updated the story to reflect the true identity and hardships of the boy and his family.

  • GLAAD’s Spanish-Language Media team worked with Solomon Romano, a former U.S. navy reservist of six years, to help him tell his story following the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” Romano shared his story with Univisión, Noticiero 62, Noticiero Telemundo and KABC. Jorge Vargas, who was also media trained, shared his story with Noticiero 62 about losing his military career following an investigation into his sexual orientation.

  • GLAAD unveiled a new and improved website that is a cutting edge tool for online advocacy, and now features more continually updated news content about the LGBT community. The new website also makes it easier for users to contact and interact with GLAAD and report anti-LGBT defamation in the media.

  • After air personalities on Boston's KISS108 made disparaging comments about transgender advocate and 'Dancing with the Stars' contestant Chaz Bono, GLAAD worked with the station to produce 15-second PSAs that promote acceptance for transgender people and highlight local transgender-inclusive legislation.
