A website tracking local news reported that two couples came forward in Texas to ask that their marriages be recognized by their home state and the story is being picked up nationally especially by LGBT publications. Cleopatra De Leon and Nicole Dimetman of San Antonio were married in Massachusetts, but their marriage is not recognized in Texas due to a 2005 ban and constitutional provisions. More recent polling shows that 63% of Texans support civil unions but have a harder time with supporting marriage, only 34% do. San Antonio has the 9th largest metropolitan Latino population according to a Pew report and Latino LGBT individuals and families tend to live in large Latino areas instead of large LGBT areas. San Antonio is in Bexar County, ranked 7th in the William's Institute list of counties with LGBT Latino couples. The story is one to watch because it will impact couples in Texas and LGBT families nationally.
