Matthew Vines, whose pro-LGBT speech at College Hill United Methodist Church went viral on YouTube earlier this year, is in New York for "Being Gay Is Not a Sin" Wednesday, August 8 at Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan. GLAAD spoke to Matthew about how he came to deliver his speech at College Hill UMC and the impact it’s had on his life since.
In June, New Jersey couple Brian Edwards and Tom Privitere found that their engagement photo had been used in an anti-gay attack ad in Colorado by Eugene A. Delgaudio and the organization he runs, the Public Advocate of the United States. The ad was an attempt to make Tom and Brian look scary. The problem is, Tom and Brian are not scary. In the early morning hours, a group of youth gathered in Laguna Hills, California, to let people know that there are better dining options for LGBT equality then the newly opening Chick-fil-a restaurant. Youth from the Youth Empowered to Act (YETA) distributed fliers to inform potential customers of Chick-fil-a’s donations to anti-LGBT organizations and political statements. They also offered suggestions for alternatives to Chick-fil-a.
