More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Parenting Magazine Names Ohio Mom Jennifer Tyrrell Among Best Parents of 2012
Ohio mom Jennifer Tyrrell, who was ousted as a leader of her son Cruz's Boy Scout troop because she is gay, was named among the 'Best Parents of 2012' by Parenting magazine. She is raising four children with her partner Alicia Burns. Jennifer has been working with GLAAD since early 2012 to call for an end to the Boy Scouts of America's discriminatory ban on gay scouts and LGBT leaders. A petition started on Change.org demanding that the BSA revoke the policy garnered over 300,000 signatures, whcih Jennifer hand-delivered to the national Scouting organization's headquarters with GLAAD. Since then, more and more individual scouts, local scout troops, entire scout councils, national leaders, celebrities, organizations and companies have spoken out in support of ending the BSA's anti-LGBT ban.
While the policy stands, Jennifer remains committed to reversing it and challenging all forms of anti-LGBT bullying and discrimination. Her story continues to inspire people around the country, helping them to see that no one should be denied the option to participate in an organization like the Boy Scouts of America just because of who they are.
