Moonlight a leader as Golden Globe noms announced for 2017 awards

Early this morning at the crack of dawn from The Beverly Hilton Hotel, Laura Dern (3-time recipient), Don Cheadle (2-time recipient) and Anna Kendrick (2009 nominee for Up in the Air) announced nominees for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 2017 Golden Globe Awards.

MOONLIGHT was a close second to LA LA LAND (7) for the most nominations in the movie category with 6 nods, including for Best Motion Picture-Drama and Best Director-Drama for Barry JenkinsMahershala Ali received a nom for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, as did Naomie Harris for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture.  Barry Jenkins also received a nom for Best Screenplay-Motion Picture.  Rounding out the nominations was one for Best Original Score-Motion Picture.

Jeffrey Tambor Golden Globe

TRANSPARENT was nominated for Best Television Series-Musical or Comedy.  And perennial favorite for his role as Maura Pfefferman, Jeffrey Tambor received a nom for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy.

The story of the U.S. Supreme Court case that struck down the ban on interracial marriages, becoming the foundational argument for winning marriage equality, LOVING received two nominations:  Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama to Joel Edgerton, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture–Drama to Ruth Negga.

Receiving a nom for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television was the STARZ original movie THE DRESSER, a small screen adaptation of the 1983 Peter Yates film.  Set in London during World War II, it tells the story of a dedicated personal assistant to a deteriorating veteran actor who struggles to get him through a difficult performance of Shakespeare's King Lear.

Sarah PaulsonOut actress Sarah Paulson received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her stunning portrayal of Marcia Clark in FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson.  Additionally, Gina Rodriguez of The CW’s JANE THE VIRGIN received a nom for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy for her portrayal of Jane Villanueva.   Here is a full list of the 2017 Golden Globe Award Nominees.

Meryl Streep Golden GlobesA highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Cecil B. deMille Award to acting icon Meryl Streep, recipient of 8 Golden Globes and 29 nominations.  Created in 1952, for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment, the first woman to receive the award was Judy Garland in 1962, followed by Joan Crawford in 1970.  Past recipients include Barbra Streisand, Alfred Hitchcock, Walt Disney and Denzel Washington in 2016.

Jimmy Fallon Golden GlobesJimmy Fallon will host the 74th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday evening, January 8, 2017, broadcast live from 8-11pm ET (5-8pm PT) on NBC from The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.  A veteran presenter in a variety of categories, Fallon honored Cecil B. deMille recipient Michael Douglas with a Best Performance by an Actor award in 2014.  Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said of this year’s host:
