Israel's Conservative Rabbinical Seminary Votes to Accept Gay and Lesbian Students

On Thursday, April 19, the board of the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies voted nearly-unanimously to reverse this ban and will start accepting gay and lesbian students beginning next year. Rabbi Mauricio Balter, President of the Israeli Conservative Movement Rabbinical Assembly, is supportive of the vote.

Remembering the Persecution of Gay Men and Lesbians on Yom HaShoah

Wednesday at sundown marked the beginning of Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Day of Remembrance. Among the millions of people who were arrested, tortured, or killed during this tragedy were over 100,000 gay men. About half of these men were sentenced to prison or work camps, where they were forced to wear pink triangles.

Common Witness Coalition Urges the United Methodist General Conference to Welcome LGBT People

In preparation for the United Methodist General Conference 2012, which will take place April 24 through May 4 in Tampa, Florida, the Common Witness Coalition has released For Love of God and Neighbor: A Common Witness to General Conference 2012, a statement of inclusiveness that recognizes the intersections between equality for LGBT people and issues of “race, gender, global partnerships, peace, stewardship of creation and economic justice.”
