Director James Gunn Apologizes for Anti-Gay and Sexist Comments on Blog Post

Following outreach from GLAAD and outrage from LGBT community members, press, and allies on blogs and social media, James Gunn has released a statement of apology regarding a blog post from February of 2011, in which the Guardians of the Galaxy director made anti-gay and sexist comments about characters on a list called “The 50 Superheroes You Most Want to Have Sex With.”

GLAAD Examines Ten Years of Transgender Images on Television; More than Half Were Negative or Defamatory

GLAAD's new study of transgender images on television in the past ten years revealed that nearly half of all catalogued episodes contained negative messages and stereotypes. Additionally, transgender characters were cast as victims or villains more often than not, while anti-trans language found to be present in at least half of all episodes.

Fox News Joins CNN, CNBC, HLN, MSNBC in Purple as Cable News Recognizes #SpiritDay

For the very first time, every top cable news network is taking part in Spirit Day able news networks CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and HLN are participating in Spirit Day today, with anchors on all four networks donning purple to take a stand against bullying and support LGBT youth. Plus, business news leader CNBC has had anchors in purple throughout dayparts for the third year in a row!

Modern Family Wins Big at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards

The 64th Annual Emmy Awards aired last night on ABC, and the host network's Modern Family took home the award for Best Comedy Series and two acting awards. In addition to Julie Bowen winning Best Supporting Actress, Eric Stonestreet won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of gay father Cameron, and said onstage how proud he was to play part of TV's favorite LGBT family.
