More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Lesbians Make History in Miss California USA Pageant
Monday, January 9, 2012 - 5:40pm by Adam Bass, GLAAD's Senior Media Strategist
Last year on this blog we highlighted Jenelle Hutcherson of Long Beach, California. She was participating in the Miss Long Beach Pageant. Jenelle and West Hollywood resident Mollie Thomas became the first two openly gay contestants to ever advance to the Miss California USA pageant in Palm Deseret, California, last weekend.
Though neither Jenelle or Mollie won the contest, they were both role models for young LGBT people throughout California. GLAAD congratulates Janelle and Mollie for breaking stereotypes and for speaking up, speaking out and making history.
