Set to the tune of "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer," on Monday the Lowell Sun newspaper published an anti-trans ‘Christmas carol’ in which Chaz Bono and the Massachusetts Transgender Equal Rights Bill were the targets of the 'joke.'
Contrary to the will of the majority of Virginians, state-licensed adoption agencies will soon be able to legally discriminate against prospective adoptive and foster parents on the basis of sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, religion, political belief and family status. Meanwhile, nearly 6,000 Virginia children live in foster care.
After passing in both houses of the Massachusetts Legislature last week, today Gov. Deval Patrick (D) signed the historic Transgender Equal Rights Bill. The law will take effect on July 1, 2012, at which time the state's approximately 33,000 transgender residents will have vital protections against discrimination in employment, housing, education, credit and hate crimes law.
