Jason Collins covers TIME 100 issue

TIME Magazine released its annual TIME 100 list and not only was openly gay Brooklyn Nets player Jason Collins included on the list, he was also chosen as one of four people to grace the cover. Collins became the first openly gay active NBA player in 2013 when he came out in a Sports Illustrated cover story called "The Gay Athlete."

Chelsea Clinton, Collins' classmate at Stanford, penned the TIME 100 article. In the article, Clinton wrote, "When Jason called to talk about his forthcoming Sports Illustrated cover story, 'The Gay Athlete,' I realized at some point that I wasn’t surprised we were having the conversation we were. Not because I knew what we were going to talk about when I answered the phone. Rather, because it made eminent sense that it would be Jason becoming the first openly gay, still active pro athlete in a major U.S. sports league."

Appearing on the three other TIME 100 covers? Oh, just Beyonce, Robert Redford and Mary Barra. Not too shabby. Congrats Jason and the others included on the TIME 100 list! See the full list.
