Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin headline new Netflix series 'Grace and Frankie'

Netflix announced today that out actress Lily Tomlin and her 9 to 5 co-star Jane Fonda will star in Grace and Frankie, a new 13-episode half hour original comedy series to premiere on Netflix next year.

The series focuses on archenemies Frankie (Tomlin) and Grace (Fonda) who find their lives changed completely and permanently entangled after their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to marry.   Tomlin herself recently wed Jane Wagner, her partner of 42 years, earlier this year.

Netflix has shown a commitment to LGBT-inclusivity since it began premiering original programming in 2012. Their hit series Orange is the New Black is nominated this year for a GLAAD Media Award and features characters who identify as lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.  Additionally the hit series House of Cards stars Kevin Spacey as a sexually fluid politician, and the upcoming sci-fi drama Sense8 from trans creator Lana Wachowski and her brother Andy will include a closeted Mexican telenovela leading man and a transgender American blogger as part of the core cast.
