GLAAD Spirit Day Ambassador Maria Menounos named Grand Marshal of LA Pride Parade

Extra host Maria Menounos, who served as a GLAAD Spirit Day Ambassador last year, has been named Grand Marshal of this weekend's LA Pride Parade. You can sign up to march with GLAAD in the parade here.

"The LGBT Pride Parade represents something truly American," Menounos said. "It's the celebration of community, a celebration of uniqueness, diversity and progress, and it's the celebration of a new United States where we do more than 'tolerate' or 'accept' our gay brothers and sisters, but embrace and celebrate them."

In October 2012, Menounos and fellow Spirit Day Ambassador Shay Mitchell and co-star Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars) went purple to take a stand against anti-LGBT bullying and dedicated a special Extra segment to talk about Spirit Day and why it matters. Check out the video below.

The 2013 LA Pride Parade will kick off Sunday, June 9 at 11 am and run from the Santa Monica Blvd./Crescent Heights intersection to Santa Monica/Robertson Blvd.
