GLAAD held a special kickoff event for our Miami Leadership Council last Friday at the Soho Beach House where guests mingled and discussed GLAAD's upcoming work in South Florida. Co-Chairs of the GLAAD Miami Leadership Council Lauren Foster, Marysol Patton, Sarah Arison, Valerie Batrice and Zurami Pascual served as hosts of the event, which also included GLAAD National Spokesperson Omar Sharif, Jr.
The event kicks off GLAAD's renewed presence in South Florida as our Spanish-language team continues their work to improve and grow the images of LGBT people in Spanish-language and Latino media.

"LGBT families in Florida face inequality in laws and cities across the state, and support from the Latino population is critical in creating a Florida where all families are treated equally" said Omar Sharif, Jr. "The fantastic volunteers involved in the GLAAD Miami Leadership Council will provide support and leadership for GLAAD as we focus on working with local and Spanish-Language media in the state to create change."

Lauren Foster's sentiments were echoed by best friend and ally Zurami Pascual, when she said "GLAAD is leading nationally on so many issues, particularly trans issues, such that Florida is happy and appreciative to have the renewed attention of the organization."

Special thanks to event partners Ketel One Vodka, Charlie Lapson, Boca Tanning Club, and Coconut Cartel!
