Fran Drescher to Happily Marry Three Same-Sex Couples

Fran Drescher, star of TV Land's Happily Divorced, will officiate marriages of three same-sex couples who win the Facebook contest "Fran Drescher's 'Love Is Love' Gay Marriage Contest" in New York City.

On March 6th, Drescher will officiate the marriages of three lucky couples at a venue to be announced in New York City on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in support of the second season premiere of her show Happily Divorced and their "Fran Drescher's 'Love Is Love' Gay Marriage Contest" on Facebook. Drescher has received a minister’s license to perform these special ceremonies.

The "'Love Is Love' Gay Marriage Contest" opened today at 12:01am ET/9:01pm PT and will run until February 20, 2012 at 11:59pm ET/8:59pm PT on the Happily Divorced Facebook page. The contest is open to residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, but fans of Drescher worldwide can participate by checking in to the event on FourSquare, interacting with Fran on Twitter using hashtag #FranFan and viewing real time updates on the Happily Divorced Facebook page. To enter the contest, each couple must submit a video (no more than 120 seconds) or a photo and 350-word essay in which they tell their own love story, explain how they represent the idea of "love is love" and why they would like to be married by Fran. Drescher will hand-pick the three lucky couples based on their story and originality.

"Marriage equality is our opportunity to uphold our constitutional values, to stretch beyond our comfort zone and mature into a better version of ourselves," stated Drescher, "It is only by example that we may continue to be a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world. This is a no brainer, people; after all...love is love."

Drescher has been a longtime advocate for the LGBT community. She fully supports her openly gay ex-husband Peter Jacobson, whom she teamed with to throw a benefit to raise funds to fight Proposition 8 in 2008. Drescher also participated in Spirit Day to stand up against bullying of LGBT youth.

Drescher's relationship with her ex-husband provided the inspiration for the actress' latest TV hit.   Happily Divorced tells the story of Fran, a Los Angeles florist whose husband comes out of the closet after 18-years of marriage. They are unable to sell their home after the economy collapsed, so they must continue to live together as they both re-enter the dating world. The second season premieres on TV Land Wednesday, March 7 at 10:30pm ET/PT.
