More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Director Brett Ratner Films GLAAD PSA Series of Famous Allies "Coming Out" in Support of the LGBT Community
This past week, director Brett Ratner, GLAAD, and a cast of celebs filmed a new video campaign aimed at asking straight allies to stand up and speak out on behalf of their LGBT family members, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. The new PSA spots are now being edited in post-production and will be rolled out in the coming months.
Straight allies are vital to ensuring that millions of LGBT are treated fairly, and the new spots include both people already famous for their support of the LGBT community and some surprising new ones as well. Participants range from comedians, to athletes, to even one of the world’s most famous action stars. Names will be revealed soon. As you can see in the exclusive set photos revealed here, Rush Hour star Jackie Chan and culinary powerhouse Giada De Laurentiis were among those taking part.
In addition to the celebs that volunteered to take part, these PSAs wouldn’t have been possible without the help of a lot of other generous people. They were shot on lot space generously donated by HBO (the True Blood stage no less), and the crew committing their time and labor came from Blue Collar Productions and Brett’s own team.
We’ll have more thank you’s, details, and brand new videos to share with you soon!
