More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Delta and Chaz Bono Show Their Support for GLAAD
Delta Air Lines has been a strong supporter of GLAAD for the past four years, and in this month's issue of Delta's Sky magazine they highlight another long-time GLAAD ally.
For more than 25 years, GLAAD has transformed attitudes and promoted equality by sharing the stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, including Chaz Bono. "GLAAD's work with the media has helped people understand that gay and transgender people are deserving of full equality," Bono says. "When the media became interested in the story of my transition, GLAAD was there to make sure that I was treated fairly by journalists and media outlets." Delta Air Lines and Chaz Bono are also participating in this year’s Spirit Day on October 19. Delta will be lighting the JFK Traffic Tower in New York purple to show their support for LGBT youth, and Chaz is showing his support through his social media network.
This month the United States Supreme Court will issue decisions on two cases critical to marriage equality. GLAAD is working with media outlets and couples around the country to push for marriage. Follow GLAAD for up to date news about the Supreme Court's decision at www.glaad.org/marriage
