Brandi Carlile and Catherine Shepherd Tie the Knot

Singer Brandi Carlile wed her partner Catherine Shepherd in Boston this past Saturday, September 15.

According to SheWired, the couple is planning two more ceremonies; one in Carlile’s hometown of Seattle to be held later this month and one in her wife Shepherd’s London hometown next year.

Carlile hopes she can use her position as an out married celebrity to inspire young LGBT women to hold out hope for their own happy endings.

"I wouldn't have been able to picture myself married or successful or pursuing my dreams if there hadn't been other people that had done it before me," Carlile told the The Washington Post. "If a 14- or 15-year-old girl reads this in a small town who's gay, then she knows that someday she might go get a marriage license and get married, and there's no reason she should stop dreaming about a white wedding because I didn't."

GLAAD congratulates the couple on their nuptials and wishes them a happy life together.
