Boehner: GOP should support gay candidates

Speaker John Boehner was asked if the Republican party should endorse openly gay candidates. He responded with a simple "I do". He also encouraged his fellow Republicans "to be a little more sensitive" when speaking about women's issues.

The Speaker's comments appear to be in response to two stories. One story discussed a possible Republican strategy when running against women, and a second story that reported Rep. Randy Forbes was urging the National Congressional Committee to deny campaign money to openly gay candidates.

“Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said.

The United States House of Representatives currently has six openly LGB members. Tammy Baldwin is the only openly gay senator. There are no transgender people in congress.
