GLAAD today applauded the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit’s decision affirming the unconstitutionality of Proposition 8.
“Today’s historic decision reflects the growing support for marriage equality among a majority of Americans who believe all couples should have the same opportunities to take care of and be responsible for each other,” said GLAAD’s Acting President Mike Thompson. “Though the road to securing full equality for every American remains long, we are deeply encouraged by today’s ruling.”
We will be watching the media coverage of this historic ruling and working to make sure that the stories of same-sex couples who have been denied the chance to marry continue to be heard. Seven national polls now show a majority of Americans support marriage equality, thanks in large part to hearing the voices of loving and committed same-sex couples.
