40th Annual People's Choice Awards nominees announced: Comedic TV Actor nominees all out actors and/or out characters

Glee's Darren Criss and other celebrities including People's Choice Awards hosts Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs (2 Broke Girls) were on hand this morning to announce the official nominees for the 40th Annual People's Choice Awards, airing January 8 on CBS. Fans cast a total of 160 million votes during the nomination process – a new record for the event – with Glee and its cast leading in TV with 8 nominations, including Favorite Comedic TV Actor honors for out actor Chris Colfer as well as his on-screen boyfriend, actor Darren Criss. They're joined in the category by out actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jim Parsons, and Neil Patrick Harris. Vote now for your LGBT favorites!

Glee's other nominations include Favorite Network TV Comedy, a Favorite Comedic TV Actress nod for out actress Jane Lynch, a Favorite TV Bromance nomination for gay character Blaine Anderson and his best friend Sam Evans, as well as a Favorite TV Gal Pals nod for lesbian character Santana Lopez and Rachel Berry, and a Favorite On-Screen Chemistry nomination for recently engaged couple Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson.

LGBT-inclusive series Modern Family also picked up a nomination for Favorite Network TV Comedy, as did How I Met Your Mother which features Barney's gay older brother James in a recurring role this season. Chicago Fire, The Good Wife, Grey's Anatomy and Nashville all scored nominations for Favorite Network TV Drama - and all are LGBT-inclusive. Bones, which features bisexual forensic artist Angela, picked up a nomination for Favorite TV Crime Drama.

On the cable side, Awkward. is nominated for Favorite Cable TV Comedy, with Pretty Little Liars, Downton Abbey and White Collar scoring nominations for Favorite Cable TV Drama. Game of Thrones, True Blood and Girls (which will feature an increased role for Andrew Rannell's Elijah on the upcoming season) are nominees for Favorite Premium Cable TV Show. Tatiana Maslany, who portrays bisexual scientist clone Cosima Niehaus on BBC America's Orphan Black, is nominated for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress. The Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra and Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story picked up nods for Favorite TV Movie/Miniseries.

Ellen DeGeneres scored a nomination for Favorite Daytime TV Host, while Ross Matthews picked up a nomination for Favorite New Talk Show Host. The Voice, America's Got Talent and Dancing with the Stars, which all featured out contestants or judges on their most recent seasons, netted nods for Favorite Competition TV Show. Netflix's LGBT-inclusive hits Orange is the New Black and House of Cards are nominees for Favorite Streaming Series. The Office scored a nod for Favorite Series We Miss Most. LGBT-inclusive series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Crazy Ones, Sean Saves the World and Super Fun Night picked up nominations for Favorite New TV Comedy; while Betrayal and Dracula are nominees for Favorite New TV Drama.

On the music side, bisexual pop star Lady Gaga is nominated for Favorite Music Fan Following for her little monsters and "Same Love" rappers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis picked up a nomination for Favorite Hip-Hop Artist.
