Fox Affiliate Axes Radio Host Over Pro-LGBT Segment
Reno, Nevada FOX News Radio affiliate KKFT 99.1 FM decided to cancel the program “House of Savoy” (hosted by ordained minister Sean Savoy) after the show aired a single interview with a Dallas based LGBT advocate.
The host, Sean Savoy, has found a new home for "House of Savoy" at KJFK 1230 AM "Reno's Progressive Talk." Other programs and advertisers are now distancing themselves from the FOX News Station and LGBT and free speech advocates are rallying around Savoy and “House of Savoy”.
Sean Savoy is a spiritual educator and ordained minister, explorer, radio host, writer, editor, and public speaker who lectures in the United States and abroad. Until his show was cancelled, Savoy was not open about being gay himself, but the incident has prompted him to come out. The Sunday evening thirty minute show, produced by Nevada Matters Media, Inc., had been on the air since September, 2011.
The Reno Gazette-Journal interviewed Jerry Evans, the owner and manager of KKFT, who accused Savoy’s public affairs program, of being “weird” and “odd.” In one instance Evans said that the show had an “earthy, hippie, spacey-type feeling.”
“Pulling an entire show to avoid hearing anything positive about LGBT people hurts all people in Reno,” said GLAAD President, Herndon Graddick. “By practicing such blatant discrimination, KKFT is sending a dangerous message that they believe LGBT people shouldn't be given voice or afforded basic respect."
