Michelle MacGaffey serves as Senior Director of Human Capital & Administration for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). GLAAD is one of the largest national LGBT organizations and the only one dedicated to ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of LGBT people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. Ms. MacGaffey joined GLAAD in June, 2005.

As the head of Human Capital & Administration, Ms. MacGaffey is responsible for setting the strategic direction for human resources and providing overall leadership to the organization including the strategic and tactical tools necessary to accelerate staff performance and the expansion of organizational capacity. She is responsible for the design and implementation of key organizational effectiveness processes including succession planning, performance management, leadership development, talent selection and retention programs that attract the best and brightest people, employee engagement and related programs to create a high performance organization. Her additional role includes overall responsibility for the operational oversight of our national non-profit.

Ms. MacGaffey works to create an environment that encourages and promotes innovation, knowledge management, leadership development, skill enhancement and quality standards by building, motivating and nurturing a high performing, diverse team within the organization. She is also responsible for creating systems and methodologies to connect staff by functions and ideas across the organization to ensure that GLAADS’ strategies, goals and objectives take shape systemically. Concurrently, Ms. MacGaffey drives the organizational wide internal communications to ensure timely, accurate dissemination of information to a geographically bi-coastal workforce.

Before joining GLAAD, Ms. MacGaffey was the Director of Human Resources for the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in Northern California. In the private sector, she worked for major corporations such as W.W. Grainger, IBM, Kraft Foods, Norrell Corporation and Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Publishing Company. Prior to her career in human resources, Ms. MacGaffey was a Corporate Paralegal.

Ms. MacGaffey is a graduate of Illinois State University and a member of the University's Alumni Club of California. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and holds a Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR) certification from the Human Resources Institute and a Paralegal Certification from Illinois State University.
