Julie Anderson serves as Senior Director of Development & Finance for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and is based in Los Angeles. GLAAD is one of the largest national LGBT organizations and the only one dedicated to ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of LGBT people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

Ms. Anderson has more than 17 years fundraising and non-profit management experience within LGBT and HIV/AIDS organizations including AmFAR, L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and GLAAD.  At the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, she was responsible for an outreach and education program and eventually joined the Development Department to help raise funds to support programmatic work. 

During her tenure as the Senior Director of Development and Finance for GLAAD, Ms. Anderson has focused on strategic planning, diversifying GLAAD’s funding sources, growing and improving the organization’s major donor and GLAAD Media Awards sponsorship programs and increasing volunteer participation to support fundraising efforts. She was also part of the team that worked with Logo to first televise the GLAAD Media Awards in 2005.

During the summer of 2005, Ms. Anderson was the acting Co-Executive Director of GLAAD and helped lead the transition to a new head of the organization.  Since joining GLAAD in 1997, the organization’s budget has grown from $1.7 million to $10.3 million.

Ms. Anderson has a B.S. in Civil/Geological Engineering from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California.  She has volunteered and worked as a therapist since 1991 specializing in coming out, addictions, HIV/AIDS, eating disorders and career counseling in settings ranging from the L.A. County Jail, counseling women inmates to U.C. Irvine counseling undergraduate and graduate students.
