Nick Hess is currently Senior Vice President, Operations for the Dunn-Edwards Corporation with responsibility for the Store Operations Division, Purchasing and Supply Chain Divisions, Customer Service Division and the Corporate Development Division. Nick currently manages over 1200 (70%) members of the Dunn-Edwards workforce. Nick’s areas of expertise are corporate planning and strategic workforce management. Nick has been a key player on the executive team since 2001.
Nick joined Dunn-Edwards as Marketing and Graphics Design Coordinator in 1993 and has held positions of increasing responsibility including Corporate Color Manager, Director of Store Operations and Vice President, Operations. He has led several corporate initiatives including a focused inventory control and management initiative as well as the corporations unprecedented Loss Prevention efforts resulting in increased awareness and reduced risk for the Company.
During his tenure as Vice President and Sr. Vice President, Nick has overhauled the Operations Management Team into a highly professional and proficient group that is respected by the entire corporation, bridging the gap between Operations and Sales which previously was a significant deficiency in the company. His performance standards of management resulted in the replacement of over 60% of store management through a rigorous interview process, performance review and measurement and training program. This accomplishment was achieved concurrent with the opening of more stores than previously opened over a twenty-year period. Nick’s management of over 60% of the company’s SG&A costs resulted in year over year increased operating income and margin, resulting in record breaking operation margins and profits. This aggressive focus on income and margin has allowed Dunn-Edwards to initiate its aggressive growth strategy. In addition, the workforce is better trained and more enthusiastic than in the past twenty years.
Nick has served Dunn-Edwards for 23 years and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Lawrence University as well as an Executive MBA Degree for the Anderson School at UCLA.
